A Good, If Overpriced, Accessory, But Beware w/ Vista
The duplexer installed easily (good, clear instructions) but initially I could not get the operating system to recognize that it was installed. It took 4 calls to HP support before I got someone (located in this country) who did not have a useless script, but actually helped me in about 5 minutes. Once working, it has been just fine for 4 x 6 photos, envelopes (w/o removing paper from main tray) and duplexing.
Duplexer Great / Photo paper good / Envelopes Fair
I bought this accessory to go with my HP PSC2610 printer. My old printer was a HP 970CSE and had grown quite found of the duplexing feature of that printer. I also liked the fact I did not have to empty the paper tray when I wanted to print an envelope beacuse it had a separate slot for feeding one envelope at a time. I will have to admit though during the 5 years that I used the HP970CSE that envelope feature would feed correctly about half of the time, but at least you had the option. The Duplexer with Rear Tray performs very well as a duplexer but the functions of the rear tray leave a bit to be desired. Photo paper runs through the rear tray OK with only a minor delay in waiting for the paer to be grabbed by the rubber band that feeds the paper. Envelopes on the other hand are a hit or miss operation. If I have more than 3 envelopes in the tray 9 times out of 10 I will get a paper feed error when feeding envelopes. I have resolved to just reseting the printer and trying again when I print envelopes. I guess when you weigh the performance against the added features of the accessory duplexer and rear tray added to the PSC2610 to integrated functions of the 970CSE I am right back to where I was before. I must say though that I wouldn't trade my PSC2610 for any other printer on the market. I am extremely happy with its performance.
